The Stuttering Severity Instrument-Fifth Edition (SSI-5) is a standardized clinical assessment used to evaluate speech behavior and determine stuttering severity.
Core Components Assessed
Frequency: The percentage of stuttered syllables present in speech samples.
Duration: The length of the three longest stuttering events, timed to the nearest tenth of a second.
Physical Concomitants: Associated visible and audible physical behaviors, such as distracting facial movements, body tensions, or head nods.
Speech Naturalness: An evaluation of how closely the individual's speech rhythm and flow sound like typical conversational speech.
